Gail Hackett

Gail HackettGail’s journey in golf is marked by significant accomplishments and a passion that spans decades. As a player, she is a National Champion in the American Cancer Society Team Championship, claiming victory in 1997 at the Doral Country Club in Florida.

Other titles include six Women’s Akron District Golf Association Championship titles, three WOSGA Senior State Amateur Championships, and seven Ohio State Women’s Invitational Golf Association (OSWIGA) Championships between 2005 and 2017. She is a seven-time Stark County Women’s Amateur Champion and competed as an amateur in LPGA events, including the Phar-Mor in Youngstown, the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic, and the Youngstown-Warren LPGA Classic.

A testament to her skill, Gail has achieved ten holes-in-one, with just one more needed to complete the cycle on her home course at Congress Lake Club in Hartville, Ohio, where she also holds the women’s course record with a score of seven under par 67. As a Congress Lake Club Ladies Champion, Gail’s 27 victories span six decades, from 1974 to 2025.

Since her retirement in 2013, she has become involved in leadership areas of the game. She has served as the Congress Lake LGA Tournament Chair, LGA President, and has been the Secretary of this association’s Executive Board since 2021. She has served as the Women’s Akron District Golf Association (WADGA) Tournament Chair, President, Past President, and is currently serving as the WADGA District Representative from Congress Lake.

Gail is a charter member of the Stark County Women’s Amateur Golf Association, where she is currently serving as Secretary, succeeding Betty Peppard in 2013. She has also served as President of the Penn-Ohio Golf Association and has been a member of the WOSGA Board since 2014.

Gail’s impact in the golfing community goes beyond the greens. She’s a member of the Stark County Amateur Golf Hall of Fame Board, having been inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2012. She’s also a member of the Ashland University Hall of Fame for Tennis (2011) and the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame (2014).

Still competitive in her early 70’s, she hasn’t seen the end of her registration into these types of Ohio tournaments.
